If I were the sun, I would refuse to rise upon you,
If I were a lamp, I would not respond to your touch,
If I were the moon, I would not glow for you,
If I were the stars, I would not twinkle for your eyes,
If I were the firefly, I would hide my light at your approach, and
If I were flames, I would not dance for you.

If I were the sea, I would recede at your advance,
If I were a well, I would not receive your bucket,
If I were a spring, I would not bubble for your mouth,
If I were the river, I would not run in your direction,
If I were the rain, I would not fall on your land, and
If I were a lake, I would dry up at your presence.

And yet I see. And yet I prosper
